KHRC donates to Kobeda Number Two (2)
Kobeda Number Two (2) is one of the communities covered by the Kintampo Health and Demographic Surveillance System (KHDSS). It is a farming community situated in the Eastern part of the Kintampo Municipality. On 13th January, 2009, this community suffered a loss when fire swept through the entire community. According to the chief’s spokesperson of the community, it was in the morning of that fateful day when all the inhabitants had left for their farms. Suddenly, they realised that smoke was emerging from the direction of the community. They rushed from their farms to bring the fire under control. Unfortunately, they could not put out the fire and between 11.00am to noon, the whole community was burnt down including food stuffs which had been stored. On hearing the calamity which had befallen this community, the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) decided to come to their aid. On 27th March, 2009, a team led by Mr. Kenneth Gyasi, the officer in charge of logistics visited the community to donate some items. These included: two bales of second hand clothing and other items donated by staff. Mr. Gyasi explained that the purpose of the visit was to donate some items to the community when word got to KHRC that fire had swept the community in January this year. He emphasised that the items were not enough for everybody in the community and urged the elders to see to it that women and the children who are the most vulnerable group in times of natural disasters get a share of the clothing. The chief’s spokesperson on behalf of the chiefs and elders thanked KHRC for their kind gesture and expressed hope that the Centre will not hesitate to assist them in future should any future calamity befall them although they were not praying for that. Again, the chief’s spokesman appealed to KHRC to put up a School and a clinic in their community so that the inhabitants could have access to these facilities other than having to travel some distance to reach these facilities.
